HOORAY! It’s finally here, the first Bank Holiday of the year. For two glorious weekends you get to skip the Sunday night feeling or Monday morning dread, and live the good life of a 3 day weekend. Here are 6 things to help you make the most of the first Bank Holiday of the year.

After Street Feast, you’ve probably gained a few pounds… Fear not! Electric Run is back in London this Bank Holiday. You run your way through a series of electric-themed landscapes and cross a finish line where live DJ’s help you dance off any energy you have left. There are also Electric runs happening in Edinburgh, Cardiff, Manchester and Glasgow.

This one is a must for any lovers of the beautiful game. The National Football Museum in Manchester is fun for all ages, with interactive installations for kids and everything you need to know about the history of football. There’s also a great exhibition on the role of football in World War One. Definitely one to check out.

5. Get Contemporary

Birmingham’s internationally acclaimed Ikon contemporary art gallery is celebrating 50 years of displaying some of the most thought provoking, contemporary art there is. If that wasn’t enough, it’s also totally free! A great space to spend a couple of hours exploring.

6. A Bucket-load of bunting

The lovely canals of Little Venice are a buzz with activity this May Bank Holiday with the annual gathering of the Inland Waterways Association of canal boats. All the boats will be dressed up and ready to party British style: food, Morris dancing, real ale and canal craziness. What’s not to love?
